Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Bwindi National Park, Uganda

Bwindi National Park boasts a network of trails and hikes and observing these magnificent beasts up close is likely to be one of the expedition’s highlights. At Bwindi there are five key hikes ranging in duration from thirty minutes to eight hours. Accompanied by gorilla guides, groups of six individuals hike through the dense vegetation to catch a glimpse of these magnificent beasts in their natural habitat.

Trekking in the Ruwenzoris

Ruwenzoris Mountain Range, Uganda

These mystical mountains provide some of the best trekking opportunities in East Africa. Over 100 kilometres in length, these snow and glacier-covered mountains are surrounded by one of Uganda’s most impressive national parks, the Kibale Forest National Park. This park is famous for its chimpanzees and is said to be home of the highest density of primates in the world.

Climbing Mount Elgon

Mount Elgon, Uganda

Mount Elgon in prehistoric times stood higher than Mount Kilimanjaro. A variety of vegetation, spectacular scenery coupled with mountain monkeys, elephants, buffalo and antelope, as well as more than 300 different species of birds, will prove this mountain to be one well worth climbing. Ancient cave paintings and hot springs within the crater will make the trek a truly memorable experience.

Murchison Falls Boat Trip

Murchison Falls National Park , Uganda

Murchison Falls is one of the most spectacular in Uganda and indeed in the whole of Africa. The River Nile divides Murchison Park into the north and south sectors and forms falls where it flows over the western Rift Valley escarpment. A boat trip upstream to the falls is one of the great experiences in Uganda. You have plenty of opportunity to spot elephant, hippos, leopard, giraffe, buffalo and crocodiles.

Ziwa Rhino Project

Nakitoma, Uganda

Extensive poaching during the years of civil unrest means Uganda's last rhino was spotted in 1982. Rhino Fund Uganda established a sanctuary for the breeding of white and black rhinos. During your visit you have the opportunity to learn how Ziwa aims to establish a sanctuary as a safe and secure location where breeding of white and black rhinos can take place.

Dian Fossey's Gorillas

Parc National des Volcans , Rwanda

In 1967 Dian moved to Rwanda where she established Karisoke, a research camp in the Parc National des Volcans. During your visit you have the opportunity to trek to see the gorillas and climb the former Karisoke rearch centre where Dian spent twenty years studying the mountain gorillas. We visit her grave, located next to that of Digit her favourite gorilla.

Jane Goodall's Chimpanzees

Gombe National Park, Tanzania

In the summer of 1960 Jane Goodall arrived on the shore of Lake Tanganyika to study the evolutionary link between chimpanzees and humans. In 1977, Jane founded the Jane Goodall Institute to provide ongoing support for field research on wild chimpanzees. We visit the chimpanzee feeding station, where a researcher is on duty all day, every day, recording details of all chimps he sees. Each individual chimp who visits the site is given a few bananas, at intervals of a week to ten days.
