September 24, 2007 marks the 40th anniversary since the legendary Dr. Dian Fossey set up her groundbreaking work with mountain gorillas in Africa. She set up her camp on that day, between Mt. Karisimbi and Mt. Visoke in Rwanda's Virunga mountains, and established the Karisoke Research Center. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International has continued to monitor, study and protect the mountain gorilla population in the Virungas and their population has increased substantially as a direct result. The Fund also now exports her methods to other areas where endangered gorillas live, and also works extensively with local human communities in health, education, and economic development efforts.  Escorted by John Fowler, Dian Fossey’s former Karisoke Research Center co-worker, join our Dian Fossey Expedition in search of Uganda's and Rwanda's critically endangered gorillas and enjoy an up-close encounter with these wonderful creatures.
