Zambia - Safari Lodges & Wilderness Camps

As part of our Zambia itinerary we visit a selection of safari lodges and wilderness camps.

Chiawa Camp

  • Tented bush & water camp

  • Lower Zambezi National Park

  • Exciting land & water-based safari activities

Chiawa Camp is situated on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park. With the spectacular Zambezi escarpment as a backdrop, dotted with ancient baobab trees, the scenery along this massive river is superb.

The sparkling waters of the Zambezi are a focal point for the abundant wildlife, including elephant, hippo, buffalo, zebra, lion, leopard, various antelope species and a great variety of birds.

Accommodation at Chiawa is in spacious safari tents set on elevated timber decks. Each tent has an en-suite shower and w.c and twin or double beds, insect screens, mosquito nets and solar powered lighting. The honeymoon suite also boasts a Victorian bath. The charming thatched lounge with its upstairs observation deck, bar and dining area overlooks the Zambezi River. Other facilities include a plunge pool and a fireside barbeque area where guests can recount the events of the day under a starlit sky.

Chiawa offers many exciting land and water safari activities. Game drives are enjoyed in open four-wheel drive vehicles and a professional armed guide accompanies guests on nature walks. River cruises and canoeing provide a wonderful opportunity to view game at close quarters, especially elephant. Anglers will have the opportunity to experience the thrill of catching the infamous tiger fish on a catch-and-release basis.

Kapani Lodge

  • South Luangwa National Park

  • Bush lodge, suites and lagoon houses

  • Swimming pool & safari activities

  • Walking trails and game-drives

Kapani is a beautiful property situated on one of the many oxbow lagoons in the South Luangwa National Park. It is the ideal place to spend the first night in Zambia before moving on to the more rustic Camps.

Accommodation comprises secluded suites and luxurious lagoon houses. The brick-built chalets have thatched roofs, spacious living areas, luxurious interiors and walk-in mosquito nets. The lagoon houses feature spacious rooms, private views and elegant furniture.

Kapani is designed for the slower pace of life and between safaris guests can relax at the swimming pool or browse through the library. Meals are enjoyed on the open-air dining platform, shaded by evergreen foliage and overlooking the lagoon.

Game viewing facilities are tailored to the guests in camp at the time, but usually small parties are driven in the park twice daily in open vehicles. Night drives with a spotlight are one of the highlights of the Luangwa Valley.

Kulefu Tented Camp

  • Luxurious Bush Camp in Lower Zambezi National Park

  • Excellent game viewing

  • Game-drives, boat safaris & canoeing

The secluded and intimate Kulefu tented Camp is situated deep in the game-rich Lower Zambezi National Park in the deep shade of tall riverine trees.

The Camp has a beautiful riverbank setting and comprises spacious tented rooms on raised teak decks, each with twin beds, mosquito nets, en-suite facilities, solar heated water and a private veranda. Profoundly peaceful and eco-friendly, the camp overlooks the legendary Zambezi River. Broad white sandbanks are inhabited by crocodile, hippo and sacred ibis. Ancient oxbow lakes provide a bountiful ecosystem for other resident wildlife.

The Lower Zambezi Park is an extremely remote area with abundant and varied wildlife, including elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, hyena, zebra, gazelle and many bird species. The park lies along the northern banks of the Zambezi River and offers excellent game viewing opportunities.

After sunset the chink of glass and china as dinner is served is often accompanied by the nocturnal voices of leopard or a rare fishing owl. Discover Kulefu’s magnificent wildlife by boat, canoe, safari vehicle or on foot, and from the veranda of your own comfortable tent.

Lechwe Plains Tented Camp
  • Tented Camp in Lochinvar National Park

  • Chunga Lagoon

  • Kafue River flood plain

The exotic and beautiful Lechwe Plains tented Camp is an African fantasy under canvas. This tented Camp is built onto teak decking, sheltered under a mature grove of acacia trees on the edge of the wide Chunga Lagoon.

Lechwe Plains Camp is a tranquil hideaway far from the main safari circuits. Each tent has a private viewing deck, en-suite w.c, shower and bath, and the beds have a mosquito net. The camp is situated in the Lochinvar National Park, a World Heritage Wetland Site.

Activities include game viewing from dug-out canoes or by open 4x4 safari vehicles. The Camp also offers guided walks and visits to the nearby traditional fishing villages.

The Camp is an all year round birdwatcher’s paradise with over 400 species recorded. In addition, the park contains approximately 30,000 Kafue lechwe, 2000 blue wildebeest and 700 zebra. Greater kudu, bushbuck, oribi, hippo, side-striped jackal, reedbuck and common waterbuck are also present.

Busanga Bush Camp

  • Bush Camp in Kafue National Park

  • Excellent lion viewing

  • Day and night game-drives

Busanga Bush Camp is situated on the Busanga flood plain in the northwestern sector of the Kafue National Park. A unique eco-system, this flood plain displays typical delta features for five months of the year and is home to great numbers of water birds, including black egret, large flocks of squacco heron and open-billed storks. Wattled and crowned cranes and numerous raptors including lanner falcon make this area their home throughout the year. Lechwe and Puku live on the plain year round and as it dries, plains game such as Roan antelope, zebra, wildebeest and oribi move in. This amazing biomass attracts predators such as lion, which are seen daily, cheetah and wild dog which hunt on the rolling savannah.

Busanga comprises a large mess tent pitched in a grove of trees, housing a dining room table, lounge area and a bar. The thatched huts accommodate guests in rustic comfort. All of the huts have mosquito nets and are en-suite with dual bucket showers, hand basin and bush w.c.

Early morning and afternoon game drives which continue into the evening are enjoyed in open vehicles and afford excellent opportunities for lion viewing.
